Full Miami Lakes Council attends annual Dade Days in Tallahassee

The entire Miami Lakes Town Council participated in Miami-Dade Days in Tallahassee, which is part of the 60-day Legislative Session, where council members got the opportunity to request funding for capital improvement projects.

Mayor Manny Cid said the state granted the town $500,000 to complete the West Lakes stormwater drainage projects, and another $500,000 for the Royal Oaks community project.

The town is also seeking additional funding for other projects.

On the ongoing blasting issue, town officials indicated the study, which is being conducted by the Fire Marshall’s Office, should be completed by the summer and hope it can zero in on a solution to mitigate the rock mining industry’s explosions that allegedly have  caused property damages in Miami Lakes, Palm Springs North and Miramar.

Last year, the state legislature allocated about $300,000 to analyze the effects of blasting.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, whose office controls blasting regulations through the Fire Marshall’s Office, paid a visit to Miami Lakes last year to analyze residents’ damages, including cracks in their driveways and swimming pools.

“We will continue to work with the CFO and our state legislators to properly mitigate the issue,” Cid said.
