Tropical Letter Carrier Holding Corp. opens offices in Miami Lakes

The Tropical Letter Carrier Holding Corporation has opened up temporary facilities in Miami Lakes Business Park West at 14361 Commerce Way.

The corporation was first incorporated in the 1950s by labor union members of the United States Postal Service. The National Association of Letter Carriers, or NALC, represents nearly 300,000 working and retired city letter carriers nationwide. In South Florida, Branch 1071 represents 5,000 of these letter carriers from Lake Worth to Homestead (excluding Ft. Lauderdale, Dania and Davie.)

The organization was established as an individual entity to provide facilities for the branch’s elected members to manage the business of the union, which included representing members, training union representatives and scheduling meetings.

Mark Travers, president of the branch, serves as a consultant to the board of directors. He is also a member of Branch 1071.

“The NALC is not a for-profit organization,” Travers says. “It’s rather a labor union negotiating a labor contract and representing its members in disputes with their employer, the Postal Service.”

Since 1963, the Holding Corporation was stationed in Wynwood. However, in late 2015, the building was sold and it was decided to move into a new facility. Currently, the Holding Corporation is temporarily stationed in Miami Lakes at the Commerce Way location, and a move nearby is planned later this year or in early 2019.

“The Miami Lakes location has adequately met the union’s requirements,” Travers explained. For more information on The NALC, visit the website at
