Members of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, along with elected officials and Miami Lakes residents, enjoyed a cup of coffee for National Coffee with a Cop Day. Led by the Public Safety Committee the event invites the community to meet with local deputies to discuss issues in the community. Held on October 7 at the Cypress Village Starbucks, the group chatted and the committee handed out key fob protectors and magnets.

What started as a summer lemonade stand became a connection for neighbors in Lake Martha. Stephanie Gonzalez and her daughter operated a lemonade stand on September 19 to donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a childhood cancer awareness nonprofit. It led to Gonzalez meeting her neighbor Beth Cintron, whose son Ace Cintron, 4, is currently in remission. The pair had never met until the lemonade stand.
