Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s head basketball coach, Anthony Serro ,was named 4A-2A Coach of the Year at this year’s Miami Herald All-Dade Awards banquet.

Since 2012, Serro has served as basketball coach and the team’s record has sky rocketed to 20-11 with an 11-win improvement since last year’s season. Averaging 84 points per game, the team reached the highest total in the state of Florida and 11th highest in the nation.

Four players were named to the All-County teams: CJ Fisher, first team; Daniel Duarte, second team; Joshua Ferguson, third team; and Sebastien Jean, honorable mention.

Before Pace, Serro spent five years working for current West Virginia University assistant coach Ron Everhart, and four years at Northeastern University, where he coached current NBA player Jose Juan Barea. Before taking on the head coach position, Serro worked as assistant coach to Mark Lieberman with the State Championship team.

Serro has made it a point to reach out to younger children, not only those with the hopes of playing basketball in high school or college, but also to those who want to gain skills, team building, and confidence in a positive and encouraging environment, through his annual Junior Spartans Basketball Clinic held at Pace High School.
