Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs that are available for the public during  October:

For Children and Families:

Movies and Stories for Kids – Enjoy watching some of our favorite movies with your family and friends. Call for visit branch for movie listings. Presented by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, October 4 and 11.

Talking is Teaching. Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas – Join the branch for bilingual stories, songs and activities for toddles. Best for ages  18 months to 3 years old. Space is limited. Scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursdays, October 5, 12 and 26.  

Paws to Read – This reading program aims to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of therapy dogs who serve as literacy mentors. Bring a book or choose one from the branch collections at 11 a.m. ton Saturday, October 14.

STEM Saturdays – Dissect an eyeball. For ages 5 to 15 years old. Questions? Contact stemssaturday@gmail.com. Scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 7.

Tween Book Club – Children ages 8 to 12 meet, read, and discuss books once a month. Call the branch for this month’s title. Meets at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11.

Interactive Music for Babies – A music therapy program exposes tiny ears to a world of sounds. A certified music therapist will guide parents on how to use music at home with their children. Space is limited so contact branch to register. Meets at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 19.

Homeschool Science Class – Learn how to create different science projects. Space is limited so contact branch to register. Meets at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18.

Teal Pumpkin Party – The Teal Pumpkin Project is an organization that raises awareness about food allergies and promotes a safe trick-or-treating environment for children. Displaying a teal pumpkin in front of a home lets others know that allergy-free, safe treats are available on Halloween. Paint a teal pumpkin alongside book-loving princesses at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21 in this event presented by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.
Science in the City – Enjoy hands-on lessons infused with experiments to spark interest in STEM. Each new lesson builds upon the previous lesson. For ages 8-18 years old. Space is limited so contact branch to register. Meets at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28.

For Teens:

Dungeons and Dragons Club - Play this fantasy role playing game and create your own adventure. For ages 13 and up at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, October 9, 16 and 30.

Teen Club Presents: DJ for a Day with Girls Make Beats - Set hot cues, scratch a track, and juggle beats while learning about the technology that goes into making modern music, sound production and audio engineering. Space is limited so contact branch to register. Presented by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board for ages 12-18 year old at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10.

Teen Club – Play video games, watch anime, draw, play Dungeons & Dragons, or discuss books at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24.

Teen Club Presents: Horror Films – World War Z or Insidious? The Ring or Beetlejuice? Choose from a selection of horror films to see which is scarier at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31.     
For Adults: 

Citizenship Conversation Circle – Join in practicing English for the citizenship questions. This is an informal group to help participants feel comfortable in speaking for their naturalization interview at 3 p.m. on Fridays, October 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Meditation Classes – Join in for meditation derived from Raja Yoga, a discipline that helps develop inner calm, clear thinking and personal well being. Scheduled for 11 a.m. on Fridays, October 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Book Discussion Group – Call or visit the branch for this month’s title. Scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17.

USCIS Information Table – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service staff will provide information, materials and answer general questions about the citizenship process, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 23.

Mario Diaz-Balart Outreach Table – A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will be available to discuss federal issues and address any concerns a constituent may have with a federal agency from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25.
Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
