On November 7, Miami Lakes resident, retired Air Force Senior Airman and Coral Gables Firefighter, Carlos Martinez was honored by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart. Martinez received a Congressional Commendation for his military service while serving as an Air Force Firefighter in Iraq.
Along with Martinez, three other servicemen were honored. Diaz-Balart has plans to continue honoring local heroes. Students from FIU will be conducting interviews for the purposes of creating a book, which will be placed in the United States Library of Congress.
"It was a privilege to nominate and recognize one of our residents that has served our nation in the Armed Forces and continues serve as a Firefighter," said Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez, who is also a Coral Gables firefighter.
