Scout Leaders honored

     The Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council recognized two Miami Lakes men in May for their leadership in scouting.

     Sean Schwinghammer is scout master of Boy Scout Troop 566, sponsored by Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was named Scout Master of the Year.

     Apolo Lagarde was named Skipper of the Year. He leads Sea Scout Ship 144, chartered to American Legion Post 144 in Miami Lakes.   

      Boys and girls in Sea Scouts learn about safe boating and practice their skills on the water.

     Both leaders grew their troop memberships after the pandemic diminished scouting activities, Schwinghammer said.
