Mater Lakes celebrates Portuguese Honor Society

Mater Lakes Academy’s Portuguese teacher and club sponsor Ana Paula Garcia held her first induction ceremony for the Portuguese Honor Societyon April 30. There was a total of 10 students inducted and all of them will be walking graduation with a yellow and green cord as they represent this accomplishment. Bob Graham Education Center congratulated Eva Oliveras who was a finalist in this year's Do the Write Thing Challenge and her teacher Jacqueline Arrojo-Hernandez. Oliveras, her parents and teacher attended the awards ceremony on May 22. Oliveras was commended for being such an excellent writer along with her teacher for her efforts in enhancing her writing skills. Oliveras is pictured (left) with her teacher during the ceremony.
On April 8, two Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) students, Erik Fernandez and Naomi Valdez, were honored at a ceremony recognizing the achievements of athletes in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Both students received the Outstanding Scholar Athlete award and scholarship from the Junior Orange Bowl Committee.
