Mayoral candidates release campaign videos on Instagram

With just a few weeks until Election Day, three candidates who want to become Miami Lakes’ next mayor released in September videos to promote their campaigns on Instagram instead of on TV.

Business owner Yuniett Gonzalez has her own salsa jingle, titled the same as her slogan, “Una Dama Para Miami Lakes,” or A Lady for Miami Lakes. Musicians played it at her campaign launch party.

A singer croons in Spanish that translates as, “Yuniett Gonzalez is a woman with honor, integrity, resolve and noble fervor ...”

“I want an innovative Miami Lakes and a transparent government …,” she said in Spanish.

Councilman Josh Dieguez walks through residential and business neighborhoods and parks in his video while he describes his and his family’s ties to town.

Three generations of the Dieguez family appear in the footage.

“This November, Miami Lakers will have the opportunity to think about what they want Miami Lakes to look like for the next generation,” he says, describing goals that include maintaining a safe community and providing educational opportunities and stellar parks.

He directs viewers to his website for more information about his platform.

Like Dieguez, Vice Mayor Tony Fernandez takes viewers on a walking tour of town.

He highlights his achievements on the council, where he was first elected in 2020.

“I believe better services don’t have to equal higher taxes,” Fernandez said.

He says his top priority is public safety and describes lowering taxes, investing in drainage infrastructure and eliminating town taxes for senior residents who have low incomes.
