Local high school junior from Mater Academy Charter School, Adrienna Sotomayor, is embarking on creating a benefit show as part of her Silver Knight Project.

Her Dream Chasers Benefit Show will take place on Saturday, July 19, at Mater Academy Charter High School located at 7901 N.W. 103 Street in Hialeah Gardens. Admission is $6. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances begin at 7 p.m.

The event is an innovative talent showcase that brings together some of the most talented youth throughout Miami-Dade County. The line up consists of 22 acts in music, dance, and spoken word performances. All performers are elementary, middle school and high school students who specialize in a variety of talents.

Dance styles performed will include contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, ballroom and flamenco. The vocal performers will offer the audience an array of different music genres like pop, rock, country, contemporary and Broadway musical style songs.

The Dream Chasers Benefit Show will also have a piano solo and guitar solo in addition to two instrumental bands whose members are from the Kendall area and alumni students from Mater Academy Charter.

The event will also feature raffles from items donated by businesses. All proceeds from the event will benefit the James Jones Legacy Foundation and the Voice of Love, Training and Development organization.

“This has truly been a community supported event as I have reached out to local businesses and have been blessed with an enormous response of donations for my event,” said Sotomayor.

In addition to the community support, Miami Heat player James Jones confirmed he will be in attendance at the event in support of Sotomayor's fundraising efforts for the James Jones Legacy Foundation.

“I chose these organizations because I have had the honor and pleasure of volunteering and working with both organizations very closely throughout the past few years,” said Sotomayor. “It is a dream come true for me to present this talent showcase that will feature inspiring performances with great young vocalists, group musicians, dancers, poetry readings, and much more. Hopefully this will give me the opportunity to win a scholarship.”
