The town council surprised Miami Lakes AutoMall Partner Fred Senra on June 6, when they voted to co-designate Northwest 59th Avenue “Fred Senra Way.”
The avenue borders his business.
Friends including Miami-Dade County Commissioner Senator Rene Garcia praised Senra for his philanthropy and for building a civic-minded family.
It was Senra’s idea to hang banners for veterans and active service members along Miami Lakes Drive and he sponsors the annual display.
He also pays American Legion membership dues for veterans who can’t afford them and sponsors a float for elderly and disabled service members to ride on during the town’s annual veteran’s parade, Post 144 Vice Commander Larry Borman said.
Councilwoman Marilyn Ruano co-sponsored the street naming and called Senra “...the true Cuban immigrant story, someone who arrived in this country and has bettered himself and bettered his community.”
Senra credited his AutoMall business partners, President Ali Ahmed and Board Chairman Faisal Ahmed, for backing his philanthropic projects.
“It is an honor,” said Senra, who also serves on the town Planning & Zoning Board and is president of the Chamber of Commerce. “I never expected any of this to happen. … I love this town.”
