Back to school tax holiday kicks off

Parents hoping to save some cash ahead of the school year can shop for tax free school items from July 29 to August 11.

Along with classroom supplies parents can also save on certain clothing, shoes, bags and learning aids like puzzles.

Parents can purchase the following items tax free:

Personal computers or related items for $1,500 or less which includes calculators; desktops; electronic book readers; handhelds; laptops; tablets and tower computers as well as accessories like keyboards, and modems.

Clothing items with a sales price under $100 such as footwear; any article of clothing to be worn on the human body; backpacks; diaper bags; fanny packs and handbags.

Excluded from the clothing list are skis; swim fins; roller blades and skates; watches; watchbands; jewelry; umbrellas and handkerchiefs.

Parents can also buy school supplies under $50 or less such as binders; cellophane tape; compasses; composition books; computer disks; construction paper; crayons; erasers; folders; glue or paste; legal pads; lunch boxes; markets; notebooks; notebook filler paper; pencils; pens; poster board; poster paper; protractors; rulers; scissors and staplers and staples.

Learning aids like puzzles; flashcards; interactive and electronic books and toys to teach math or reading skills; matching or other memory games; puzzle books and search-and-find books and stacking or nesting block sets.
