BankUnited executive chosen for prestigious award

A BankUnited executive is among 15 people chosen from across the country for American Banker’s Most Powerful Women in Banking: Next award.

Lisa Shim, 38, of Miami Lakes, is an executive vice president at BankUnited.

She heads consumer and small business banking, the bank said.

Shim also oversees corporate strategy, marketing and community development.

Among her initiatives were a multi-million-dollar program to enhance the customer experience and a branding campaign called Go for More, the bank said.

American Banker, a publication that reports on the financial industry, says its Next award highlights high-achieving women who are 40 and younger.

Shim, shown in a photo above which was provided by the bank, was nominated for the honor by Rajinder P. Singh.

Singh is the bank’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.

For a story about Shim’s selection, Singh told American Banker, “Lisa has the ability to influence those around her and demonstrate empathy – regardless of position or where the person resides on an organizational chart.

“Her C-suite potential is evident in how she not only brings strategic ideas and solutions to life, but also in her ability to effect changes and empower those around her,” Singh told the publication.

BankUnited reported $34.7 billion in assets in June. It is headquartered in Miami Lakes, at 14817 Oak Lane.
