“Betsy Moo,” one of the first “We Love Cows” sculptures to be located in Miami Lakes, is now residing in a beautiful new garden setting at the Miami Lakes Branch Library.Betsy’s updated ambiance is thanks to the community beautification efforts of the Miami Lakes Garden Club which wanted to celebrate her 10th anniversary with surroundings befitting her colorful paintings.

“We Love Cows” was one of the original programs initiated by the town’s Cultural Affairs Committee under the first chairman Bob Spano. Betsy was donated to the town by former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natacha Seijas and the colorful artwork was the creativity of artist Alberto Meza, an instructor in Humanities at Miami Dade College.

During a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Garden Club president Dottie Wix said, “Our membership is made up of amateur gardeners who aspire to making our world more beautiful and productive. We involve ourselves in all aspects of the ‘art of gardening’ by participating in flower shows, plant exchanges, and tours of gardens and parks.

“One of our major goals is to ‘encourage civic beauty’ by supporting continuing improvements and beautification around Miami Lakes. We have in the past, and continue to donate trees and plants to schools, churches, the library and other areas of the town.

“Betsy offered us the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our involvement with the town and our pursuit of beautification. Every time I had driven by the library, I couldn’t help but notice how Betsy looked so alone and unadorned. That is no longer true. Thanks to the assistance of Nancy and Jordan of Landscape Lovers, Betsy has been beautified in her luscious new surroundings.”
