Candidate forum on Oct. 17 for town council, mayor races

Government By Linda Trischitta, Editor Friday, October 4, 2024

A forum will be held at Miami Lakes Town Hall for voters to hear from candidates who want to lead the town, as mayor and on the council.

Residents who attend or watch from home will be able to participate by submitting their own questions that may be posed to the candidates.

Hosted by Town Clerk Gina Inguanzo, who is also the municipality’s supervisor of elections, the panel will be moderated by attorney Alex Penelas, a Miami Lakes resident and former mayor of Miami-Dade County.

Some of the issues he could put to the candidates are finding solutions to blasting; the tension between the town’s low millage rate and its ability to delivery services; traffic; safety and development.

The events of Oct. 17 will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Residents may submit questions for candidates before then by emailing Penelas at candidateforum@miamilakes-fl.gov.

Facing voters will be Councilman Josh Dieguez, Vice Mayor Tony Fernandez and business owner Yuniett Gonzalez, who are running for mayor.

Seeking Council Seat 1 are Angelo Cuadra Garcia and Mario O. Pinera, Jr.

Debate partners are the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Miami Lakes Bar Association

The forum will be livestreamed on town social media pages and the town website, miamilakes-fl.gov.

Town Hall is at 6601 Main St.
