Com. Bovo holds Valentine's fundraising event for Animal Services

Community Friday, February 7, 2014

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr. (District 13) made a pledge to the community to raise private funds for the county’s Animal Services Trust Fund.

On Saturday, February 8, Bovo’s office is hosting a fundraiser, spay, neuter and adoption event at Amelia Earhart Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The park is located at 401 E. 65 Street in Hialeah.

“In keeping with my promise, I am asking community residents to make a financial contribution to the Animal Services Trust Fund. These funds will be used to enhance the county’s delivery of spay and neuter services, support low cost adoptions, and prevent the needless killing of sheltered animals.”

Bovo added: “Last year, I opposed a property tax increase because I believed that the solution to our revenue shortfall could be, in part, mitigated through private fundraising. Residents may make their donation by visiting the February 8 event in person, or online at district13@miamidade.gov.

Over 100 pets from Miami-Dade Animal Services, the Humane Society of Greater Miami, and the Cat Network will be available for adoption at the event. Attendees can enjoy music, food, hayrides, pony rides, a animal petting zoo at the Bill Graham Farm Village, and more.

Free parking will be available at the east entrance to the park. Free Sunpass transponders will be available and vaccines, microchips and tags may be purchased at a minimal cost.
