Aug. 2 through Aug. 30 Play Program at the Miami Lakes Youth Center. The Miami Lakes Parks and Recreation Department has a new membership program for kids ages 5 - 13 at The Spot. Youngsters may enjoy supervised ping pong, air hockey, board games and other activities. Once parents sign up their children, the kids are welcome to visit the center. Go to https://bit.ly/3ROmYe7. Aug. 3 Miami Lakes Farmer’s Market. Stroll along New Barn Road and enjoy a variety of vendors at the weekly farmer’s market hosted by The Florida Marketplace Group. At the corner of Main Street and New Barn Road. Every Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free.

Aug. 3 Back to School Event hosted by Mayor Manny Cid and presented by Mega TV. Free backpacks and school supplies until items run out. Also haircuts, ice cream, prizes, music and more. Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Aug. 4, 7, 11, 14 and 18 Summer Open Fishing Fun. The Town of Miami Lakes will once again host fishing at the Optimist Park Marina during the summer. Bait, poles and safety vests are included for those who sign up. Miami Lakes Optimist Park, 6411 NW 162nd St. Wednesdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays, 9 a.m. to noon. Free. Registration is required. 

Aug. 6 Senior Field Trip, CMX Cinemas to see “How to Train Your Dragon,” an animated film rated PG. Presented by the Elderly Affairs Committee. Free for seniors 60 +. A small popcorn, drink and a hot dog will be provided. Meet at 6711 Main St. at 9:30 a.m. to noon. 

Aug. 10 Back to School Event hosted by Mayor Manny Cid. Join the Ward Law Firm, Mayor Manny Cid, Centro Comunitario AFE and La Nueva 88.3 FM for free school supplies until items run out. There will also be snacks and fun games. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 10 a.m. Free. 

Aug. 14 Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon Guest speaker is Ignacio Alvarez, candidate for Miami-Dade County Sheriff. Networking is at 11:30 followed by lunch at noon. Miami Lakes Hotel on Main, 6842 Main St. Register at MiamiLakesChamber.com.

August 14 Miami Lakes Garden Club Bunco Game  Join the Miami Lakes Garden Club for its summer lunch and Bunco game. Cost is $6; door prizes are included. Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 NW 82nd Ave., noon.  

Aug. 15 Senior Bingo Luncheon Presented by the Elderly Affairs Committee. Free for seniors 60+ with ID. Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 NW 87th Ave. 11:30 a.m. 

Aug. 17 Symphony of the Americas Summerfest 2024. Presented by the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee, the Symphony of the Americas featuring musicians from all over the world re-turns to Hope United Methodist Church for its annual concert of classical music. Hope United Methodist Church, 14800 NW 67th Ave. 7:30 p.m. Free. 

Aug. 20 Senior Tech 101 presented by Humana and CarePlus. The Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee presents an informative and interactive tech class for seniors, sponsored by Humana and CarePlus. The class will help seniors navigate their smartphones and enable others to sharpen their skills. Light bites will be offered. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. 11 a.m. Free. 

Aug. 29 Senior field trip to Perez Art Museum Miami. Presented by the Elderly Affairs Committee. Bus departs Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. at 9:45 a.m. Tour begins at 11 a.m. Return to Town Hall at 3 p.m. Free.

Sept. 7 37°N Grand Opening The grand opening at 6832 Main St. is from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. The store supplies Boy Scouts and people who explore the outdoors. There will be interactive activities, giveaways of outdoor supplies and apparel, exclusive discounts and surprise events. Free.
