The Town of Miami Lakes recognized and commended committee members and young volunteers during National Volunteer Service Week at the April 14 Town Council meeting.
On behalf of the entire Council, Mayor Wayne Slaton read a proclamation announcing the week of April 12-18 as National Volunteer Service Week in the Town. The Council was joined by several of the town’s committee volunteers, as well as some exemplary young students and town residents who received the prestigious “President’s Volunteer Service Award” from President Barack Obama.
“Our committee members play an integral role in our Town and we are extremely grateful for all they do to help us make Miami Lakes a great place to live, work and play,” said Slaton. “In addition, we are very proud of the young students that received the President’s Volunteer Service Award and commend them for their passion to serve others at such a young age. They exemplary dedication to our community is admirable and we hope that they continue to inspire other young students to give back.”
The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals who have worked on stellar community service projects and have achieved a significant level of volunteer service hours. The Miami Lakes students who received the award included Carine Ghanoum, Bianca Larsh, Karissa Larsh, Sabrina Larsh, Marina McCready, Victoria Rodriguez, Samantha Rubinstein and Sharon Zajac, who all received their awards through the approved certifying organization the South Florida Youth Symphony.
