Couple offers scholarship, internship to marketing, business students
The founders of a subscription jewelry business who have ties to Miami Lakes are offering a chance for a low income or minority student to win a MacBook computer and an internship.
The contest, which also comes with an annual $2,000 grant for textbooks, is accepting applications from college-bound seniors or recent high school graduates until July 15.
Ylette Luis launched XIO By Ylette. Members who pay $60 per month receive a box containing jewelry which she creates or curates.
Her husband Eddy Luis is co-founder and chief executive officer of their three-year-old company which is in Doral.
“Education to me has
always been so important,” Ylette Luis said. “I want to help give someone else that same opportunity, and what better place than my own backyard?”
Students who are Latino, Hispanic or Black or from low income backgrounds and live in Miami-Dade or
Broward County may apply, the company said.
Applicants must supply transcripts, a college
acceptance letter and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
