Debates set for town, state races

Eight candidates in four races in the Nov. 3 election will debate at Miami Dade College North Campus.

     Forums will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.

     Former Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas will moderate the town council debates.

      Executive Frank Bolanos, co-founder of a charter school and former school board chair, will question candidates for the state legislature.

     The candidates for council Seat 1 are business owner Tony Fernandez and attorney Nayib

Hassan; insurance executive Ray Garcia and incumbent councilwoman

Marilyn Ruano, an accountant, are vying for Seat 2.

     Fla. District 103 Rep. Cindy Polo, D-Miramar will face attorney Thomas Fabrizio, a Republican who is also from Miramar.

     Former teacher Annette Collazo, a Democrat, and Alex Rizo, a Republican and education consultant, both from Hialeah, are in the Fla. District 110 race.
