Dr. Starsheema Greene brings a lifetime of experience in education to her role as director of the Technical College, at the Miami Lakes Educational Center & Technical College.

Greene, 45, was appointed to the job in June, when the board of Miami-Dade County Public Schools decided to have a principal lead the high school and a separate administrator for the technical college, she said.

Greene is a resident of West Park and a single mother of a 5-year-old boy. She earned her doctorate degree in Reading at Nova Southeastern University, which also awarded her a specialist degree in Educational Leadership.  She received her master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education from Florida Memorial University and a bachelor’s degree in Professional Administration from Barry University.

“Coming to MLEC, it’s full circle for me,” Greene said. Her parents, brother and an aunt received training at the 49-year-old Technical College for careers in medicine and transportation.

Greene was Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2007 and has taught special education, literacy and writing and held leadership positions at six public middle and high schools. She also worked in school district operations.

“I was appointed to build back up enrollment in the Technical College,” she said.

The Technical College serves adult students and has dual enrollment programs with area high schools.

“And for adults, we offer 17 programs in the industrial trades; nursing; medical assistant; pharmacy technician; they can earn a commercial driving license, how to operate heavy equipment and [study in] automotive service programs,” she said.
