Elderly Care Law Firm/Veterans Rights Law Firm, which specializes in helping clients plan their estates, wills, navigate probate and obtain veterans benefits, is expanding in Miami Lakes.

Attorney Tieesha N. Taylor is founder and chief executive officer of the firm that has offices in Davie and Palmetto Bay. She is hosting free seminars for the public during the next six months.

“Our purpose is to educate the community about our service and empower families to make decisions early on so they are not struggling later,” she said.

“We find that with a lot of families who wait until the last minute, it causes more stress for them,” Taylor said. “We want to encourage them to be more proactive and to make decisions early on instead of being reactive to a major life event, after it happens.”

The information sessions will be held evenings at the Venture X offices in the Arbor Place building in Miami Lakes.

The law firm is a member of the shared workspace.

Taylor has practiced law for more than two decades.

She earned her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Oregon. At the University of Miami School of Law, she earned a Master of Law degree in real property development.

She originally planned to focus on building communities for seniors but was laid off from a real estate development firm in 2007, when the industry was in a downturn.

Taylor said she turned to serving others and was a volunteer long-term care ombudsman for the State of Florida.

“In that role, I advocated for seniors living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” she said.

Representing an elderly woman whose rights had been taken away through a guardianship, Taylor said she helped get her client back into her home and restored her rights.

“That experience opened my eyes,” Taylor said. “I realized how many seniors and families needed someone to stand beside them, protect them and guide them.”

After that case, she changed the direction of the firm to work with seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans and their families.

“At our core, we are a service-driven law firm,” Taylor said. “We pride ourselves on positivity, attentive communication and truly listening to our clients.

“Many of the people who walk through our doors are facing aging, illness, disability or the loss of someone they love,” she said. “These are emotional and often overwhelming situations.”

Taylor said she and her team work to simplify documents and legal processes during such life changes and guide families, “step by step so they feel supported, not lost. … It is about dignity, protection and peace of mind.”

The law firm is an advertiser in The Miami Laker and wants to grow its business in town and get to know the community.

The lectures will be held Thursday nights from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on June 25; July 9; Aug. 13; Sept. 10; Oct. 8 and Nov. 12, at Venture X Miami Lakes, 15450 New Barn Road, Suite 200,

Miami Lakes, FL 33014.
