Just in time for the beginning of hurricane season, a new pet responsibility lesson that includes a video offering pet care tips during natural disasters became part of the curriculum for fourth and fifth graders in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). The video is the second collaboration between Miami-Dade County Animal Services and MDCPS.
The lesson plan focuses on the importance of having a family preparation plan for an emergency that includes keeping family pets safe.
“Teaching students the importance of appropriate pet care means that we are also teaching them the essential life lesson of responsibility,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “We welcome the opportunity to work with Miami-Dade County Animal Services to provide training and information to our students that demonstrate the appropriate ways to care for our pets and animals.”
“We are very pleased to once again work with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to help reach so many children about the importance of pet care and responsibility,” said Alex Muñoz, Director of Miami-Dade Animal Services.
