Florida International University diver Maha Gouda is headed to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo this summer.
The sophomore qualified to represent her home country of Egypt in the Olympics 10-meter platform diving event after she won a gold medal in the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, FIU said.
Gouda won one of the two gold medals for her country.
Along with qualifying for the Olympics, Gouda won gold in the 3-meter mixed synchro and 3-meter synchro.
FIU’s swim and dive coach Nick Yang said
Gouda did a great job and that her accomplishments were also “a big step for FIU.”
Her trip to Japan in July will be Gouda’s second to an Olympic Games.
She represented Egypt at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she competed in the 10-meter platform.
While diving for FIU, Gouda became the youngest All-American in its program’s history, the school said.
Gouda was named the Conference USA Diver of the Year, and won all three diving events at the league championships in February, FIU said.
