The Town of Miami Lakes and Loving Soles will partner for the third year in a row in an effort to collect shoes for the needy. The local charity, dedicated to putting shoes on the feet of those that need them most. Founded by Tony Garcia, Dr. Daryl Gershbein, Dr. John McGoohan and Illeana McGoohan’s teenage children, Loving Soles will donate the shoes to Camillus House.

Gently worn shoes may be dropped off at Town Hall during November in time for Thanksgiving. A closing ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, at Town Hall, 6601 Main Street.

Councilmember Tony Lama, who introduced the initiative in 2013, said, “Miami-Dade and Monroe counties have seen an uptick in the number of homeless that have moved from living in shelters to living on the street. This proves we have some work to do.

“We collected  500 pairs of shoes in 2013 and over 1500 pairs in 2014,” Lama said. “We are the most generous nation in the history of man and we all have a duty to help our fellow brothers and sisters. I know we can count on Miami Lakes to make an impact on the lives of these individuals and exceed our 2014 number.”
