Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida Troop 902 members Victoria Loyal and Alexa Landrian are working to earn their Silver Awards.

The scouts’ goals are to empower U.S. Military veterans and save dogs in shelters with their project: Mission: Paw-sitive Impact.

Victoria, 13, of Hialeah Gardens and Alexa, 12, of Miami Lakes, have partnered with the Miami Lakes Veterans Committee and American Legion Post 144, as well as

Miami-Dade County Animal Services; the Humane Society of Greater Miami; Lakes Weight Loss & Esthetics and Fancy Grooming Mobile Service.

Mission: Paw-sitive Impact wants to help veterans adopt shelter dogs as companions or service animals and equip them with a “pawsome package,” a starter kit with pet essentials, Troop 902 co-leader Rebeca Morales said.

Kits will contain dog food and bowls; a bed and blanket and a collar, leash and toys.

Through partner donations, the new pet owners will also receive a free grooming service, a free boarding trip, a free veterinarian visit and reduced pricing for future services.

Victoria and Alexa are collecting money and donations through Amazon for Mission: Paw-sitive Impact.

They will hold an adoption event on Sept. 28 at K-9 Cove, 14048 Palmetto Frontage Road in Miami Lakes from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Another adoption day is set for Nov. 3, during the Miami Lakes Veteran’s Day Parade.
