Girl Scouts join with Youth Activities Task Force for Fit Fair at Park West on Aug. 9

Sports Monday, August 4, 2014

The Town of Miami Lakes and its Youth Activities Task Force, along with local businesses and organizations, have partnered with Girl Scouts Chloe Schwinghammer and Emily Wong from Troop 248 to host a Fit Fair for the community from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at Miami Lakes Park West, 15151 N.W. 82 Avenue.

The Fit Fair, created by the two girls as a Girl Scout Silver Award project, is intended to reduce obesity by promoting health and fitness, and to help Miami Lakes residents learn about fitness opportunities in the town. It also offers an opportunity for parents to start their children on the road to a healthy and fit new school year.

The event is free and will offer presentations by local professionals about child and adolescent health and wellness, and feature local businesses and organizations that provide fitness programs including sports, dance, Karate and more.

With schools scheduled to reopen classes in late August, the event is a timely back-to-school event and an opportunity for parents and children to learn about fun and healthy activities for the upcoming school year. Miami Lakes Youth Activities Task Force will also offer back-to-school giveaways and promote its own fun activities and programs.

Walgreens will on site with a pharmacist to answer questions and to offer free blood pressure checks.

Other participating sponsors include Miami Lakes Sports Shop, DDA Engineers, P.A., Kobushi Karate Dojo of Miami Lakes, and Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr.
