Kaitlyn Ruano and Rebecca Segura of Miami Lakes Girl Scout Troop 302 completed their Girl Scout Silver Award on April 30.

The girls chose to focus their project on senior citizens residing at the Fair Haven Nursing Home in Miami Springs. The project consisted of preparing 100 “Welcome Boxes” which included hand-made non-slip socks, hand lotion and a bilingual activity book.

Along with the welcome boxes, they also put together a game box with activities for the seniors to work on in the future. A box of over 350 handmade birthday cards was also included.
Ruano and Segura coordinated with the Bob Graham Education Center Spanish Honor Society to assist with the donations of many of the items.

The project culminated on April 30 with a “Fair at Fair Haven Day.” The girls, along with their fellow troop members, hosted the event which was attended by over 40 senior citizens. The event included crafts, games, bingo, prizes and snacks.
