Glenn-Ellen Rawls, a 57-year resident of the Town of Miami Lakes where a community is named for her, died at home on April 10.

     She was 85.

Rawls was born in Rock Hill, S.C.

A former Delta Airlines flight attendant, she had a successful career as a Realtor in residential real estate with Coldwell Banker.

She and her husband Robert Louis Rawls, an executive with The Graham Companies who died in 2005, raised three children. Rawls also became a grandmother and great-grandmother.

The Lake Glenn-Ellen community on the west side of town bears her name.

The Graham Companies’ practice as it developed the Town of Miami Lakes was to name lakes and neighborhoods for women in the Graham family or after the wives of its corporate leaders.

An avid reader and a dedicated worker of crossword puzzles, Rawls spent many summers shelling on Sanibel Island.

“She was a very kind and gentle person, very wise and perceptive,” said Anne Marie Little, Rawls’ daughter who is vice president of commercial property management at The Graham Companies.

“People gravitated to her,” Little said. “She was a good mentor and friend to many.”

Rawls doted on her granddaughters and took them on trips to Sanibel.

In addition to Little, she is survived by her grandchildren Summer Rawls, Whytney Rawls and great-grandchildren Cory Hardin, Jr. and Aubrey Hardin.

Rawls is also survived by son John Rawls. Son Robert L. Rawls, Jr. predeceased her.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Main Street Players in Miami Lakes.
