When Jesus was with his disciples before his death and resurrection, they knew that, somehow, God was with them. They struggled to understand and came to know him as the Messiah, the Christ. After his resurrection, they knew that he was still with them and they knew that they had to share his presence with everyone who would listen.
One day, after the resurrection, two of them were walking along a road. Jesus came and walked with them and taught them from their Scriptures but they didn't know who he was.
They invited him to stay with them and, when he broke the bread during dinner, they knew that the stranger was Jesus and they ran back to tell their friends. Jesus is still with us when we break bread and have Communion with him. With those first Christians, we say, “He is risen! He is risen indeed!” Have a blessed Easter.
