Barbara Goleman’s badminton team celebrated an amazing season after competing in, and for the first time in school history, team placing in the Youth Fair Tournament on March 11 at South Miami Sr. High. In girls singles, Patricia Miranda finished in first place for Miami-Dade County and in girls doubles, Sydney Cote and Alyssa Moore finished in second.
During the North District’s Divisionals on April 6, Miranda took home first place for girls singles, Cote and Moore took home first place for girls doubles, and Chelsea Henriques and Gabriel Brok took first for mixed doubles. Carlos Vigo ranked third in boys singles and Victor Meija and Brandon Fernandez ranked fourth in boys doubles.
For the GMAC finals for all Miami-Dade County on April 13, the team celebrated a first place win for girls singles with Miranda, second place for girls doubles with Cote and Moore and fifth place for mixed doubles with Henriquez and Brok.
Additionally, Miranda made the All-Dade first team and will be recognized at The Miami Herald, Miami-Dade Athletic Awards ceremony on May 26 at Jungle Island.
“This is quite an accomplishment for Goleman and the Badminton team,” said coach Debbie Perez. “As their coach, it has been my pleasure to mentor each and every one of them and I am extremely proud of my players and how hard they played. Through their hard work, practice and dedication, they came out as winners. To the graduating seniors, I say you will be missed and for the rest of the team, I look forward to next season with enthusiasm.”
