Darnell Flucker, a student at Barbara Goleman Senior High School, was named recipient of the Coach Rick Quintanilla Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to football players who not only play well on the field, but also show honor, courage and commitment. In the face of adversity, Flucker pressed on and continued attending practices all the while coping with his mother’s illness, a blood clot in her lung.

“We are so proud to hand out the 4th Annual Coach Rick Scholarship award, and this year it went to a young man that exemplifies what this award is all about,” said Coach John Murillo, father of the late Rick Quintanilla. “Today, Darnell’s mom is doing much better. I truly believe Darnell Flucker will go on to do something special in the world and honor the legacy of Rick Quintanilla.”

Flucker will be reporting to Webber International University this fall where he will continue his studies and go on to play football.
