Hialeah Miami Lakes High School senior Jaquesta Adams is a 2016 Ron Brown Scholar, as she was recognized for her academic achievements and drive to succeed in Washington D.C. last month.
As part of the honor, Jaquesta and other Ron Brown Scholars were awarded $40,000 ($10,000 per year in college for four years), to be used at the college or university they plan to enroll in starting this fall.
The Ron Brown Scholar Fund is managed by an independent Board of Trustees, and named after the late Secretary of Commerce and inspired by his dedication to public service, and focusing on encouraging civic engagement among scholars while promoting academic excellence, community and lifelong interactions.
According the its website, the Ron Brown Scholar Program has a proven track record of academic success with a 99 percent graduation rate, and graduating scholars go on to outstanding careers in technology, arts, sciences, public service, law, medicine and start their own businesses.
