In Memoriam: Carolyn Furlong

Religious Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Carolyn Furlong, passed away on April 19. She was a fearless woman who blazed many trails before women were expected or allowed to do so.

A longtime Miami resident, she owned and ran her own insurance and benefits company for over 60 years. She was the matriarch of the Loy and Furlong families and she will be missed immensely. Everyone should all be as lucky to live such a long and full life.

She will be laid to rest on what would have been her 90th birthday celebration. She is survived by her partner, John Megary, her sons Michael Loy (Judy), William Loy (Marilyn), Kelly Furlong (Melissa), Kerry Furlong (Sonya), stepson Paul Furlong (Gabby) and her daughter Kim Corlew (Lanny).

She had 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The memorial is to be held on Sunday, May 21 at 4 p.m., at Miami Lakes Congregational Church, 6701 Miami Lakeway South. The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to the church or to a special charity.
