JetStream Federal Credit Union supports scholarships
The procession was led by a famous actor, but the real stars of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Breakfast were the 42 high school seniors who received scholarships for college.
The ceremony that recognized the teens who are soon to be young men was held Jan. 20 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami, Airport and Convention Center.
The mentoring organization grew from its founding in 1993 by U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami Gardens, who started it while she was serving on the School Board of Miami-Dade County.
JetStream Federal Credit Union, which has an office in Miami Lakes, was a sponsor of the 27th annual breakfast that was held on Martin
Luther King Day.

“Congresswoman Wilson has created an amazing program that has helped so many potentially at-risk young men succeed,” said Jeanne Kucey, chief executive officer of the credit union. “JetStream Federal is very proud to be a part of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program.”
Among the prominent guests were actor Larenz Tate, of the STARZ TV show “Power;” U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; U.S. Rep.
Donna Shalala, D-Miami; State Attorney Katherine
Fernandez Rundle, 11th
Judicial Circuit in Miami; Miami-Dade County Public Schools Supt. Alberto
Carvalho; Miami-Dade
County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Commissioner Barbara Jordan, and
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
