Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy’s middle and high school teams competed at the Ten80 National STEM League Finals held at Miami Coral Park Senior High April 29 - April 30.

The JMMA Silver Streaks from the middle school and the MAST and Furious high school teams faced 30 competitors, including from schools in Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, Michigan, Maryland and North Carolina, Ten80 said. Teams from other areas of the United States and China competed remotely, the school said.

The Silver Streaks presented an 8-minute enterprise speech to the judges, while the MAST and Furious team gave an 8-minute pitch and data-driven design project.

The contest develops students’ skills in engineering, coding for automation, graphic design and marketing, among other problem-solving tasks, Ten80 said.

MAST and Furious took 3rd place in the Pit Stop Challenge. Both teams did well in other categories, including Best Lap time race; Most Laps race, drag races and a 30-minute endurance race, the school said.

Both Jose Marti teams made it to the second round of the drag race before they were eliminated; their cars also made over 70 laps in the endurance race, the school said.
