Lakes resident Esteban Guio wins Hispanic Heritage Foundation Award

Esteban Guio, an alumnae of Miami Lakes K-8 Center, and Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 660 was a recipient of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation Award in a ceremony held in early December at the University of Miami.  

Guio, a senior in Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was the recipient of the Silver Youth Award in engineering. In 2016, the foundation honored 21 Latin high schools’ rising seniors in the Greater Miami area who have excelled in the classroom and community in eight categories.  

The awardees received a grant for meeting criteria in those categories. Guio was recognized for his merits in education, community service, engagement in the peer-to-peer tutoring program MAGIS, leadership as president of the Science Honor Society in his school, a 5.14 GPA and his commitment in many extra-curricular activities focused on biotechnology and innovation.
