A group of local high school student-athletes made the Miami Herald’s All-Dade teams in soccer, basketball, wrestling and cheerleading.
For boy’s soccer, the 5A-4A First Team includes American High junior midfielder Diego Arcon, who recorded 11 goals and 11 assists this past season.
Making the second team was Mater Academy senior goalkeeper Daniel Espantoso, and the third team includes American junior Jacobo Velez.
Honorable mentions include American players David Chiu-Hung, Camillo Martinez, Anthony Cardona and Erasamo Tejeda.
The boy’s soccer 3A-1A second team members include Dade Christian sophomore forward Ivan Arenas, and honorable mentions include Dade Christian players Steven Perdomo, Austin Figueroa, Nicholas Ducheine and Ian Trotta.
For girl’s soccer, the 5A-4A third team includes Mater Academy senior midfielder E’lexus Martin and her teammate, freshmen defender Saige Griffin.
Honorable mentions include American players Lenysse Dyer, Michelle Murch, Pamela Ramirez and Leilani Bravo; and Mater Academy’s Kylee Griffin, Julissa Benitez, Julia Sanchez and Alexis Rodriguez.
For girl’s soccer Class 3A-1A, first team members include Mater Lakes sophomore midfielder Ariana Lopez and Dade Christian midfielder Amanda Martin.
Third team members include Dade Christian sophomore defender Abigail Clanton and Pace senior defender Yasbe Sosa. Honorable mentions include Pace players Liz Alvarez, Alda Rivera and Jennifer Darbouze.
For boy’s basketball in Class 8A-6A, Mater Academy sophomore guard Dylan Frye, who averaged 20 points per game and five assists per game, made the first team.
Second team members include Mater Academy junior guard Isaiah Reese, American senior guard Jonathan Spicer and Mater Academy junior forward Raul Frias.
Honorable mentions include American players Luis Escobar, Kobie Johnson and Jimmy Liz; and Mater Academy’s Jonathan Andre, Rafael Diaz and Mario Osorio.
For boy’s basketball in Class 4A-2A, the first team includes Pace senior guard C.J. Fisher, who averaged 21 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Second team members include Pace senior guard Danny Duarte, Pace junior forward Josh Ferguson, and an honorable mention for Pace’s Sebastian Jean.
For girls’ basketball in Class 8A-6A, the first team includes American senior guard Maikala McCloud, who averaged 15.9 points per game and made a record 53 three-pointers.
Second team members include American senior guard Shanya Jones, and third team members include American senior forward D’Ajahane Smith and American senior center Ebony Griffin.
Honorable mentions include American players Jessica David and Joel Williams; and Pace players Destiny Wilson, Tiane Lewis Joseph, and Chelsas Brown.
For wrestling, making the first team was Pace’s Matt Kirkland who won the state title in his 170 weight class, and making the second team were Pace’s Justin Cohen, Mater Academy’s Wilmer Almendarez, and Pace’s Christian Perez Godwin Ferrier.
Honorable mentions include Hialeah Gardens’ Michael Rodriguez and Mater Academy’s Yancarlos Guerra, Yasuan Rosa and Yuri Cabrera; and Pace’s Steven Moreno, Alex Perez and Aaron Fluitt.
For cheerleading, Dade Christian’s Amanda Diaz, Amanda Decoro and Cristyn Myland made the first team.
