Local houses of worship schedule special Easter events

Miami Lakes area churches have scheduled a variety of special service events for Easter.

Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, located at 6600 Miami Lakeway North, is celebrating Easter and Holy Week. 

On Thursday, April 2, a bilingual mass of the Last Supper is scheduled at 8 p.m. Good Friday, April 3, will have Traditional Stations of the Cross in English at 10 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. in Spanish. A Devotional Service to the Divine Mercy in Spanish with Recitation of the Chaplet at noon in Spanish and again at 2:30 p.m. in English. A Bilingual Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion is scheduled for 7 p.m. that night as well.

Holy Saturday, April 4, a Bilingual Liturgy of the Easter Vigil will take place at 8 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, Spanish mass will commence at 8 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The same service only in English will commence at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Miami Lakes Congregational Church, located at 6701 Miami Lakeway South, is holding special services for Easter weekend. 

 

Beginning on Maundy Thursday, April 2, an evening service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Fellowship Hall. Attendees will be treated to a potluck supper followed by a Tenebrae Service with communion. On Good Friday, April 3, an evening worship service will be held at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. A service of hymns, prayers and scripture focused on Jesus’ cruxificion and death, the holiest day of the Christian year, will follow. 

 

On Easter Sunday, April 5, the church welcomes the community to a 10:30 a.m. service to celebrate Christs’ ressurection with worship and a sermon led by Rev. Richard Sparrow entitled “Expect the Unexpected.” Following the sermon at 11:45 a.m. the Easter Bunny will be available for photos. Face painting, balloon art, finger food, mimosas and an Easter Egg Hunt will also be available.

The Church of the Epiphany, located at 15650 Miami Lakeway North, with celebrate the Holy Week with a Maundy Thursday, April 2 service at 7 p.m. with a commemoration of Jesus’ Last Supper. Following on Good Friday, April 3, is a Stations of the Cross Good Friday Liturgy at noon and 7 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish. 

 

On Saturday, April 4, the Great Vigil of Easter, the Lighting of the Paschal Candle and the First Holy Eucharist of Easter will take place at 8 p.m.

 

Easter Sunday, April 5, Spanish mass will be held at 9 a.m. and again in English at 10:30 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.

Palm Vista Community Church, located at 6425 Miami Lakeway North within Miami Lakes Middle School’s auditorium, is holding a special Good Friday evening service on Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. and an Easter morning service on Sunday, April 5 at 10 a.m. For more information visit www.palmvista.org.

Elevate Church, formerly Miami Lakes Baptist Church, located at 6250 Miami Lakes Drive, is hosting the largest Easter Egg Hunt in Miami Lakes along with Easter services on Saturday, April 4 at 6 p.m. and Easter Sunday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. A total of 20,000 eggs will be divided amongst the 4 Easter services.
