Local students win Silver Knight awards

Maurits Acosta, Roberto Carmona and Christopher Inguanzo were among 60 achievers honored at the 67th Annual Silver Knight Awards held May 15 at the James L. Knight Center.
The ceremony, judged by professionals in different fields, recognize students’ work in 15 categories. Competitors are from Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties.
Acosta and Carmona graduated from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School; both will attend Harvard College.
Inguanzo graduated from Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School and will attend Florida State University.
Acosta won the Social Science category and Carmona won the World Languages category. They each received a $2,000 scholarship from the Herald Charities Foundation, 25,000 American Airlines Miles and a Silver Knight statue.
Inguanzo was awarded honorable mention for Social Science and won a $500 scholarship and a plaque.
The awards are presented by the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald.
