Miami-Dade School Board chair Perla Tabares Hantman honored the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Wilfredo A. Ferrer, during a special recognition at the March 12 School Board meeting.

“Mr. Ferrer’s Violence Reduction Partnership is a shining example of community involvement in action and he is truly our partner in education,” Hantman said. “I am so pleased that he could join us to accept this recognition in honor of his advocacy and many contributions to the students of South Florida and our community.”

Ferrer, a graduate of Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School, launched the Violence Reduction Partnership in 2011, aimed at reducing crime in areas of South Florida that are prone to crime. One of the partnership’s goals is to build educational partnerships in order to mentor children, create jobs, rehabilitate offenders, and eradicate crime and violence.
