M. Lakes Branch Library sets new operating hours

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced it will have new hours of operation beginning Monday, October 6. The branch, located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road, will be open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch will be closed on Sundays. 

The following programs are available for the public during October:

For Children and families:

Saturday Matinee at the Library – The branch presents family friendly films at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 4.

Reading Ready Toddler Storytime - Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their care givers at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Paws to Read – Certified therapy dogs listen as children read aloud and practice their reading skills, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 11.

Read the Book, See the Movie – Captain America Winter Soldier – Great movies begin with great literature. Here is an opportunity to delve into the book behind the blockbuster movie and then chat with others about the joys and struggles of the two formats. Experience made possible by the Miami Dolphins Foundation at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 11.

For Teens:

Graphic Design and Video Production with YouMedia Miami – YouMedia hits the road to develop the technology skills of the future. Teens will showcase their final product in a culminating event on Saturday, October 25 at 3 p.m.

Wearable Book Cover Nails – Bring your own polish and tools. An in-house nail art expert will show attendees how she uses popular book covers as inspiration for her nails. Registration and permission from caregiver is required. Event made possible by Miami Dolphins Foundation at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 17.

Game On! Teen Gaming Competition – Celebrate National Gaming Day! Enjoy the latest video games while competing against others. Registration at the branch is required. Event made possible by Miami Dolphins Foundation at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 18. Winners will move on to the final rounds at West Dade Regional Library at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 15.

For Adults:

Book Discussion Group – Contact the branch for this month’s title. For ages 18 years and up. Meets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21.

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Community Outreach – A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will visit the library to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency. Meets at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22.
