The grandparents of Brigid Faye Walters, Miami Lakes residents Virginia and Joseph Cuthbert, are proudly celebrating the announcement of their granddaughter’s recognition for superior academic achievement and leadership potential which led her to an appointment to the Coast Guard Academy.

The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, is an accredited college educating future Coast Guard officers. Admission to the Coast Guard Academy is highly competitive and fewer than 350 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 2,200 applicants.

Cadets receive full tuition scholarship and a monthly stipend for a five year service commitment to the Coast Guard upon graduation. All graduates receive a bachelor’s degree and guaranteed position of leadership as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Brigid Walters is the daughter of Christi Cuthbert-Walters and Jesse Walters. She  is also the granddaughter of Jesse and Una Fay Walters from Athens, Texas.
