The Main Street Players Theatre Troupe has scheduled auditions for Becky’s New Car by Steven Dietz for Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29, with a possible call back on Wednesday, April 30. Auditions will be held at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, in Miami Lakes.
The play is the troupe’s 2014 summer production opening on July 25 and running to August 16. It will be directed by artistic director Robert Coppel, with assistant director Clara Lyzniak.
Those wishing to audition should be prepared to read from the script and participate in improvisation while bringing a headshot and resume.
Character breakdown:
Becky Foster – Late 40’s, works at a car dealership as the title manager, must have comedic timing and be nimble on stage. An Improv background is a plus.
Joe Foster – late 40s, early 50’s, Becky’s husband of 28 years, a roofer. He’s a very easy-going guy, but don’t be fooled by his calm exterior and his laid back attitude - he’s sharp as a tack.
Chris Foster – Becky and Joe’s 26-year-old son, still a college student and living at home majoring in psychology. A bit of a smart ass, but is a good kid waiting to grow up.
Walter Flood – Late 50’s, early 60’s, a wealthy billboard magnate and recently widowed, which has left him a bit adrift, but a real gentleman.
Kensington (Kensi) Flood – Walter’s 23-year-old daughter, a bit spoiled, but searching for real love and to venture out on her own.
Steve – Late 40’s, early 50’s, Becky’s co-worker and also recently widowed, he’s having a difficult time dealing with his grief.
Ginger – 50’s, attractive neighbor of Walter, who was also his wife’s good friend. She appears to be vying for his attention, but is dealing with her own life changes.
Rehearsals will probably start at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5. For more information, call Coppel at 305-331-5103.
