There will be no postseason rematch between district foes Mater Academy and Barbara Goleman High boy’s basketball team, as Mater beat the Gators, 75-38, in the 4-7A regional quarterfinal, while the Lions defeated Southeastern Nova, 64-31, to advance to play the Mustangs in the regional semifinal this week.

Mater clobbered the Gators, 59-23, to win the district championship and Goleman was seeking a rematch to avenge the postseason loss.

But Mater spoiled their chances, as 14 of its 27 fields goals came off assists from nine different players, and the Lions out rebounded the Gators 28-16.

Guard Jake Rodriguez led Goleman scoring with 11 of his 16 points in the first quarter but his teammates were no match for the opposing players.

In other boy’s basketball playoff games, Westminister Christian defeated Mater Lakes Academy, 80-71, to advance to the 4-4A regional semifinal and SLAM advanced to the second round of the 4-3A region by defeating Dade Christian, 38-35.
