The National Honor Society presented the chapter at Mater Lakes Academy with the Overall Award of Excellence for the 2024-25 school year.

The organization recognized the school’s club for achieving what it calls the four pillars, or its core values: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Mater’s chapter was one of 48 in the country to be recognized, the school said.

The students’ activities included tutoring middle school students; hosting a career fair for 400 kids; donating more than 550 pounds of clothing to Camillus House; giving 200 books to Books for You Miami and providing 200 toys for patients at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the school said.

The school is marking its 20th year.

Principal Rene Rovirosa praised the young scholars for their role in shaping it.

“The National Honor Society represents the front line of any school,” Rovirosa said in a press release.

“Its members exemplify the highest standards of excellence, and it is a distinct honor for our chapter to be recognized by one of the nation’s most prestigious organizations,” he said.
