During his State of the Town address on Dec. 8, Miami Lakes Mayor Josh Dieguez singled out the Gonzalez family as Volunteers of the Year. The family - Omar Gonzalez, a member of the town’s Civic Association prior to incorporation; his wife Cathy Quintana, an Accountant in the Corporate Division at The Graham Companies; Omar’s brother Kelvin Gonzalez and Omar and Cathy’s adult children, Christina, known as “KiKi” who is a trainer at the Miami Lakes Athletic Club and physical education coach at Mater Gardens Elementary and Gabriel, a student at Miami Dade College North Campus - has served the town and its committees over the years. The kids want to continue their father’s legacy of volunteering in town, Cathy Quintana said.
“This is a family that believes in public service, they believe in giving back to the community,” Dieguez said. “I want to recognize the Gonzalez family as the Family of the Year.” Name an event and members of the Gonzalez family are there to help out, including the Public Safety and Cultural Affairs Committees and at the Veterans Parade, Miami Lakes 25th Anniversary Celebration and the Festival of Lights.
