Miami Lakes Branch Library schedules September events

Miami Lakes Branch Library has the following programs available for the public during September:

For Children and families:

Reading Ready Toddler Storytime - Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their care givers at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Saturday Matinee at the Library – Miami Lakes Branch presents family friendly films for your entertainment at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 6.

Paws to Read – Certified therapy dogs listen as children read aloud and practice their reading skills at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 13.

For Teens:

Graphic Design and Video Production with YouMedia Miami – YouMedia hits the road to develop the technology skills of the future. Teens, ages 13-19 years, are eligible to register for an in-depth course on graphic design and video production. The program is limited to 35 participants and requires a commitment to four workshops. Teens will showcase their final product in a culminating event in October. Meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9; Wednesday, September 17; Tuesday, September 23; and Tuesday, September 30.

Teen Club: Games and More – Teens meet to play video games, watch anime, draw or discuss books. For ages 12-18 years old at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16.

Simultaneous Chess – An experienced player will challenge 15 opponents at the same time. Knowledge of chess required. Registration is person required at the Miami Lakes Branch Library and is limited only to 15 players. Meets at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20.

For Adults:

Commissioner Esteban Bovo’s Mobile Office Community Outreach – Mobile Office Outreach provides an opportunity for the community to speak to the commissioner and/or his representative(s) at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 8.

Puerta de Oro de Colombia – Enjoy a glimpse into Colombian life with stories and folk dance by Puerto de Oro de Colombia. The group will have the audience celebrating Hispanic Heritage month with dances such as the Cumbia and other styles that have evolved throughout its history. Meets at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 13.

Book Discussion Group – Contact the branch for this month’s title. Meets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16.

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Community Outreach – A member of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart’s staff will visit the library to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency. Meets at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24.
