Miami Lakes Congregational Church celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Religious Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Hispanic Heritage Month has been recognized and is being celebrated at Miami Lakes Congregational Church through Sunday, October 12.

Through music and hymns, prayers and sermons, the church has celebrated the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Church members have given witness to the ways the strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service have strengthened and blessed America’s national character and the local community and congregation.

Miami Lakes Congregational Church lists worshippers from Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, El Salvador, Panama, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba, and their gifts have enriched the church in every way.

On Sunday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m., the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration concludes with a Mariachi Band in worship and during Fellowship Time. The community is invited to join in.

In another event on Sunday, October 12, church members, friends and the wider community are invited to bring pets to the church at 4 p.m. for a Blessing of the Animals service following the example of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, horses, goats, birds! If they are important to their owners, they are important to God and the church will bless them.

The service will take place on the front lawn of the church. Water will be available for all and plastic bags as needed.

The church motto is “No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.” The church is located at 6701 Miami Lakeway South across from Miami Lakes K-8 Center.
