Community Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Miami Lakes Garden Club announced its next guest speaker for the organization’s Gardening Program Series scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, November 25, at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 Montrose Road.

Residents attending the presentation will enjoy a presentation of “Edible Gardening for the Tropics,” a program by organic vegetable gardening expert and author Karin Fields. With over 15 years of vegetable gardening experience in South Florida, Fields installs backyard edible gardens, and educates people on how to grow their own food.

Fields served on the Broward County “Million Meals Community Gardening Subcommittee.” Her school projects have included Dillard High School, Miami Northwestern Senior High, Cypress Run Elementary, Boulevard Heights Elementary, Nova Elementary and Paideia Classical Academy.

She has won two awards from the State of Florida for working with children – Guardian ad Litem of the year (2002), and the Lorraine Munroe Spirit of Excellence. The lecture program is free and open to the general public.

Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase Field’s just published book “Organic Vegetable Gardening in the Tropics” at the end of her presentation.
